3 + 1: Do You Really Know About Fibromyalgia? - HAWMC Day 16

How much do you know about fibromyalgia?  Would you be able to distinguish facts from myths?  Let's test your knowledge about this chronic pain disorder.  I'll list three truths and one myth.  Comment below with which one you think is the myth.  You can also participate through my Facebook page by answering this poll question here.

1.  Fibromyalgia pain can be very mild for some to extremely severe for others, causing a significant impact to their quality of life.

2.  Diagnosing fibromyalgia often takes time and can be difficult.  There is no lab test to determine if a person indeed has fibromyalgia syndrome, i.e. an x-ray or blood test.  A physical exam and a person's symptoms are used as a diagnostic tool, although many of the symptoms overlap with other similar conditions, making it challenging to confirm fibromyalgia.

3.  Onset of fibromyalgia is typically caused by a physically and stressful traumatic event, such as an automobile accident, or repetitive injuries.

4.  Fibromyalgia affects about 5 million people, with 80 to 90 percent being women.  Men and children can also be affected by fibromyalgia.

I will post the answer tomorrow.  ツ Good luck!
