#MHAMBC Day 4 - Large Migraine and Headache Hopes

Large Migraine and Headache Hopes: What large thing gives you hope for living with Headaches and Migraines?

It was hard for me to pinpoint what large thing gives me hope as I have so many little things that inspire hope in regard to living with Migraine and Headaches.  Yet, as I was sitting here staring at my computer screen, it occurred to me that I do have one.  Myself.  My biggest inspiration behind keeping a positive outlook in living with Migraine is how far I have come.  No matter how difficult this journey has been I still managed to pick myself up, wipe away the tears, and open myself up to new possibilities.  Believe me, I have hit rock bottom more times than I'd like to admit and have felt like there will never be an improvement in my health.  Those moments do not last forever and I always find the strength to keep one foot in front of the other.  Even if it is only one step forward a day, I am moving forward nonetheless.

A life with Migraine, especially Chronic Migraine, is so extremely hard.  Nothing about this diagnosis comes easy or free of disappointment.  Unfortunately, the longer you live with it the more jaded and pessimistic you can become because the obstacles seem to outweigh the successes.  It is just as challenging trying to remain hopeful as it is to manage the pain, triggers and symptoms.  You have one of two choices when you live with a chronic illness.  Either you succumb to the devastation and allow yourself to be destroyed by it or you don't allow it to beat you.  The latter is not easy by any means but it is a conscious choice one has to make.  You must allow it to be your guiding light to help pull you out of the darkness when it starts to creep in during the most difficult and trying times.  This is a skill I have gotten much better at over the course of 29 years.  It is a learning process where you realize how strong and resilient you really are and that you are not breakable.

I am never one to give myself credit for anything, but I think it is important that I recognize how important my role is in this journey.  Without my resolve and willingness to try whatever it takes to achieve health and happiness, I am not sure where I would be in this process.  So yeah, the brightest beacon of hope lies within me, which in turn, brings hope to those closest to me.  I have to fill myself up with it in order for others to see it and reciprocate it. If I don't see myself getting better than who else would expect anything different?  Like with anything else in life, it all begins with yourself.  How you approach life and the ups and downs that accompany it is important.  I try very hard not to allow that light of hope to burn out.  Writing this blog, participating in raising awareness, and giving support to others all stem from being hopeful and the desire to bring hope to anyone who needs it.  What goes around comes around.  I am just doing my part to add to a better and brighter future to everyone who lives with Migraine and Headaches.
